EFEE 2025 in Kraków – GIG-PIB’s participation and the presentation of the SEDAS project

On 20–23 September 2025, the 13th EFEE World Conference on Explosives and Blasting was held at ICE Kraków—one of the most important meetings for the explosives, mining and demolition community. The event brought together nearly 600 specialists from over 50 countries and featured a substantial industry exhibition.

Workshops and the contribution of Polish partners
As an institutional partner of Poland’s blasting-engineering community, the Central Mining Institute – National Research Institute (GIG-PIB) cooperated with the Association of Polish Blasting Engineers (SPIS) to deliver the pre-conference technical workshop “Use of Explosives in Demolition Works.” The workshop attracted practitioners and engineers interested in modern techniques and safe work practices.

Presentation of the SEDAS project
During the workshop, the SEDAS – Safe and Effective Decommissioning of Arch Supports (RFCS) project was presented. The project focuses on developing and demonstrating a safe, effective technology for the decommissioning and recovery of steel arch supports in galleries undergoing closure, as well as preparing operating procedures, risk and OHS assessments, and environmental and business analyses that support the efficient use of recovered steel. The project is financed by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel and launched on 1 September 2025.
